Association Canine Des Pyrenees Atlantiques CACS Show, Pau France

We hit the road again on the 16th of April to make an epic 15hr drive to the South of France; the show we attended was the CACS (French Kennel Club) National Show in Pau. I went to this show with an open mind as I did not know what the competition would be like and we had to travel a long way. The dogs traveled well and I am glad I had a rest day before the show.

Our Judge for this show was Mr Raymond Soulat Judge

Nova was next in the ring in her first try at Open Female, I always get the impression that Nova is not really fussed about showing and would rather be working sheep or playing frizzbe!

Again the language was an issue but he seemed pleased with Nova, he said she had a feminine head and kind eye, her build was a little light and she could do with a little more bone. He liked her coat quality and overall he was happy with her conformation and substance. I was delighted that she won her class and was awarded Excellent.  We then had to wait for the Best Opposite sex class to see how she would go; again I was delighted with this result especially because it was her first Open Class.  When we went back in for the best Opposite Sex class she performed well and moved better in this class than the first! I was over the moon to be awarded the Best Opposite Sex.

Boomer performed as he always has; he comes alive in the show ring and really looked and moved well. Though my French is almost non-existent I managed to understand from the judge that he liked Boomer very much. He said he had good substance and coat, his movement was excellent and he had a lovely head and kind eye.  Needless to say we won the class with Excellent and boomer had to wait to see who he would come up against in the Best male class.

We were called back into the ring for the best male class, I think the judge had already made his decision as we only stood for a short period of time and did one run up and back. I was delighted to be awarded  Best Male we then had to wait for the Best of Breed. At this point I was delighted with the results and would have been content with this as our overall result.

This left me with a problem both dogs would go against each other for Best of Breed! I was lucky that my friend Nadine was with me and agreed to take Nova in the ring for me. The judge only took a moment to award Boomer the Best of Breed and Nova Reserve Best of Breed. The best was yet to come, for the first time we would compete in the Group 1 final and then if we were placed, to go forward for Best in Show.  I was delighted to have the opportunity in competing in the Main ring with the other Herding group best of Breeds! The pride I felt going out to have ‘Miniature American Shepherd’ called out as I entered! We did not make the final cut on this occasion, but wow what an experience! I cannot wait for our next show at the end of May; I can honestly say I am truly in love with this breed and in particular my dogs who are just getting better and better!
